Morgan L. Williams Scholarship

The Materials Information Society, Washington, D.C. Chapter

The Washington, DC Chapter of ASM International invites eligible and interested undergraduate students to apply for the Morgan L. Williams Memorial Scholarship.

The Morgan L. Williams Scholarship Fund was started in 1981.  Dr. Williams was an active member of the Washington Chapter for more than forty years, and served the Chapter in many capacities.  His contributions to the field of metallurgy extend over four decades.  He was particularly well known for his work in identifying the welding failures that caused the catastrophic ship fractures during and after World War II.  Throughout his career he enjoyed working with and helping students.

One scholarship for the amount of $2,000 will be awarded to a Washington, DC-area undergraduate student enrolled full time an accredited college or university for the academic year 2016-2017, and majoring in a degree program related to materials science and engineering.  To be eligible, students must have (a) graduated from a high school within 60 miles of Washington, DC, and (b) maintained a permanent residence within the same proximity.

The scholarship winner will be selected by members of the Scholarship Committee of the Washington, DC Chapter of ASM International.  Applicants will be evaluated according to their academic performance, research experience, and service to the technical community.

The deadline for submission of applications is May 20, 2016.

Applications are available in your departmental office.
