Dear Dr. Clark,
We are currently interviewing for an entry level technical position within our company, open in the summer of 2016 - graduates in May, if you will. We think that individuals with a material science / materials engineering background may be well qualified for our position, but we noticed that there were no material science resumes gathered during our Career Fair visit at Virginia Tech. Hence, I am reaching out to you directly, to see if we could try again. As we are a chemical company, we may not have been "on the radar" for your graduates. I would be interested in knowing if there were candidates in your program that could be the right person for our position.
Our particular business area within Evonik, manufacturers additives for use in making Polyurethane foam. We look for our employees to have an ability to understand basic organic chemistry, but to apply this to what our customers are actual doing - making Polyurethane foam parts and what that means for the customer, materials science. The interaction and bridging knowledge is the key. We believe that this opportunity is unique, in that we are looking to grow the individual candidate technically and provide experience with customer facing responsibilities, so that their technical abilities would need to be paired with good interpersonal and presentation skills. There is no need to have any familiarity with our chemistry or Polyurethane chemistry, we plan to teach that; we are only looking for the foundations that give a person the opportunity to learn.

I recognize that, as the department head, there are others within your team that would handle these types of requests, and if you would pass my information along, I would be more than happy to reach out to them directly.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
