Data Management Bootcamp

Anyone interested in learning more about data management issues and best practices is invited to participate in the one-day Data Management Bootcamp sponsored by the University Libraries at Virginia Tech:

  • Date: January 15th, 2016
  • Time: 9:00am - 4:30pm
  • Location: SCALE-UP Room (100S) in Newman Library
  • Register Now -- only 50 seats are available.
Data management is an important topic for researchers and scholars across domains, especially as funding agencies increasingly require submission of data management plans with grant proposals. Data management plans are documents that describe the data and metadata that will be gathered in a study, and the processes for preserving and sharing that information.

These requirements encourage researchers to plan ahead for data management and sharing. In doing so, they will help to promote practices that facilitate reproducible research, data use and reuse, and interoperability among distributed systems.

The keynote session includes a guest lecture by Virginia Tech researcher Peter Sforza, Director of the Center for Geospatial Information Technology (CGIS).

Morning and afternoon sessions include: data management overview, writing a data management plan, data storage, data archiving, data documentation, library data services, and more.

If you have questions about this event, please contact Andi Ogier, Associate Director, Data Services at alop@vt.edu.
